What is myrrh?

What is myrrh?

Matthew 2:11 (NIV) Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh. (Given to Jesus after his birth)

Myrrh: Aromatic resin used as an ingredient in anointing oil (Exodus 30:23), applied as perfume (Ester 2:12), placed in cloths to deodorize them (Ps 45:8), given as gift (Matt 2:11), and used to embalm bodies (John 19:39)

Holman Illustrated Pocket Bible Dictionary

John 19:39 (NIV) Nicodemus brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about 75 pounds. Taking Jesus’ body, the two of them wrapped it, with the spices, in strips of linen. (Jesus’ burial)

I think the connection between anointing (setting apart), Jesus’ birth, and Jesus’ burial is interesting. Always the King!!!
