Unmerciful Servant and the woman caught in adultery

Take two on posting this. Got deleted while I was writing it. i guess the last one wasnt inspired by the spirit but this one is hopefully. November 3 was the parable of the servants in debt. What stuck out to me was that servant just didn't get it. You can tell by the way he treats his servant but also in what he says to his master. He thinks he can pay back everything if he just had more time. To me it's like the performance mentality or perfectionist who thinks one day I'll get it right. Being perfect means you don't need grace or God but that's not what God wan and not how we are designed. We need to be in a relationship with him. For me it helps to know I don't have to be perfect before he accepts me. Like this post, I really think the last one was better but maybe it doesn't matter because this one can still help someone. Anyway it takes some pressure off.

With the woman caught in adultery, it really stuck out to me that Jesus asks her "Has no one condemned you?" "No one sir." "Then neither do I condemn you. Go now and leave your life of sin." Jesus didn't condemn this woman even though she was in sin. There is an expectation to stop but he doesn't blast her. Where is the line between correction and condemnation? What is your discipling like? Do you condemn or rebuke? This passage comforted me a little today that Jesus and God aren't about condemning me for all my mistakes, and that Jesus came to save the world not to judge it.

Hmm great thots bro!

The first parable is very convicting; there have been a number of times when I had to remember all the good I have received from God (through people and experiences) and not w/hold the good I could so easily give to others--esp when I am relunctant to give to someone.

As for the second parable; I love that God doesn't condemn me, I love that God prompts me to obey Him through kindness---it is His love, mercy, grace, etc. that always makes me feel safe to go back to Him when I mess up, when I am hurt, etc.

thx for sharing your thoughts Justin and Tera. haha. we should make this the Justin/Tera/Tina/Craig blog!j/k. haha. :)

ok, too. comment your thoughts. be brave!

back to my real thoughts:
If you search "unmerciful servant" you will notice that two blogs will show up. the one dated nov. 4 is mine. i posted some thoughts on that particular passage about the unmerciful servant.
personally, i can relate a lot w/ this servant. in that i try to earn grace by my deeds...and am such a complete perfectionist. i also think he was just unrealistic and completely missing the grace.

sometimes i sort of struggle w/ having a balance though. God does call us to be perfect.
Matthew 5:48
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
2 Corinthians 13:9
We are glad whenever we are weak but you are strong; and our prayer is for your perfection.
Philippians 3:12
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

Obviously we are never going to be perfect but he expects perfection and excellence so we must be diligent and do what please Him.
And of course he accepts us regardless...even though we are not perfect. But just like the unmerciful servant, since he missed God's grace, he was thrown into jail/hell. so in the same way, we must learn to have a balance.

As for the adulterous woman- I usually condemn the snot out of people! haha. jk. well, i can come across i have been told. i should work on my words to more encouraging and correcting rather than negative or condemning.

my discipling really depends on the person. i have sisters who are more of the listener, soft hearted and encouraging. i have others that can tell things to me straight but loving (like you Tera). i haven't had lately anyone come towards me as condemning. thank goodness.

love the passage in John about how Jesus came to save and not judge. i love that separation because we are held responsible by the word of God and that Jesus is rooting for us!

you know if we changed the name of the blog it would force the lurkers to speak up. JK

Ok Tina I must have completely missed that day you wrote about the same thing. I had no idea someone else had written about it already.

In regards to perfection, the Matthew 5 scripture I have a hard time when it is quoted because many times the context is forgotten. The "perfection" that is being talked about is loving everyone including our enemies not doing everything correctly. And from Corinthians our perfection has to do with our souls being saved and making it to heaven. Thanks for the good responses Tera and Tina.

no worries that you missed my blog. i know my blog can be boring sometimes. :D I actually wanted to point out the search function, wasn't trying to put your post off or anything. i think your post was really cool since it had a diff angle from mine.

thanks for bringing back context to what we read. sometimes i lose sight of that. yes, we must strive to love perfectly, not do things correctly. and even when we don't do things correctly, he will still love us and accept us...flaws and all. such great insight! Thanks.

WOW. that is a really good point. No, for God's purposes he wants to include us in his will. Dude, I just met the coolest guy at my work yesterday...89 years old....and he lead a church and he was talkin about the love and grace of God and about how God also cannot live with sin and that is what Jesus is for...and for me personally they have been my quiet times lately...the past two days i just focused on the scriptures about Jesus dying for us and so we are made great and different scriptures about that....his real purpose. it can be hard to see cuz we live in a world that does not see God...physically as in a being... timothy talks about God is eternal, immortal, and INVISIBLE. but rom 1 talks about God's qualities being made visible thru nature and that is what drove me to see God in the first place!!! and then we see his SPECFIC ANSWERED PRAYERS U KNOW.
